This program is for AMC members who are interested in organizing and leading AMC Chapter activities and trips. Completion of the program qualifies participants to become leaders in training alongside an experienced leader for Hiking/Backpacking, Biking, Skiing, 20s & 30s, Family Outings, Paddling and other chapter specific committees. We’ll spend 2 full days working together. Lunch and dinner will be provided Saturday. Tenting/camping overnight is encouraged. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on Sunday. At the conclusion of the training, participants will be paired with an experienced leader mentor to assist them with leading activities for their chapter. The format consists of lectures, small group exercises, and role-play scenarios spread out over the course of the weekend. Topics include trip planning and trip organization, safety, leadership approaches, group dynamics, diversity, equity and inclusion, and conservation with and emphasis on experiential learning and decision making skills. Open to all AMC members with preference given to those who have actively participated in AMC events and trips. The cost is $65, payable in advance, to cover course materials, food, and facilities.
